Jagadhatri Puja of Chatu Babu and Latu Babu’s house

Bonedi Bari

The Jagadhatri puja is a festival dedicated to Hindu mythology’s goddess Jagadhatri. The celebration is held on the day of Nabami and it is hosted by the Sarkar family who have been hosting the ceremony for 190 years. This puja follows tantric rituals and involves offering bhog (cooked rice, lentil dahls, vegetables, chutney) to Maa Jagadratri. Charan-Baithak( exchange of gifts) and Sandhi Pujan are also included within the celebration which take place more than a week after Nabami as a means of preparation for Dasami. And as with all Hindu pujas there comes a point in every ceremony that involves devotional singing called Kanaka Jaal or Bhajans dedicated to Maa Durga.
