Heritage and Community: BCHCS in Toronto

The Bangladesh Canada Hindu Cultural Society (BCHCS) stands as a flagship organization for Toronto’s Bangladeshi Hindu community. Established in 1995, BCHCS provides a vibrant platform where locals gather to practice both spiritual and cultural traditions—with Durga Puja as its annual centerpiece. To accommodate growing needs, BCHCS founded the Bangladesh Canada Hindu Mandir (BCHM) in 2005, now a registered charitable organization and home to Toronto’s main Bangladeshi Hindu temple.

The temple is located at 16 Dohme Avenue, Toronto, serving as the heart of Durga Puja festivities, spiritual activities, and socio-cultural integration for both adults and youth.

Cultural Program and Community Impact

BCHCS’s Durga Puja is noted for:

  • Rich cultural shows: Bengali music, dance performances, dramas, and poetry recitals uniting second-generation Canadians with their cultural roots.

  • Social service: Educational programs, youth classes, and charity initiatives uphold the society’s commitment to holistic community care.

  • Inclusive environment: The temple welcomes not only Bengalis, but Torontonians from all backgrounds, fostering multicultural understanding.

The Durga Puja magazine—Chinmoyee—highlights art, literature, and photography by local members, celebrating vibrant Bengali creativity.
